COLORADO SPRINGS — The U.S. Air Force Academy's base police will test its gunshot detection technology installed at the Prep School Wednesday morning.

The testing will take place from 9 to 11 a.m.

Airmen will fire blank ammunition rounds from a handgun and a rifle inside the building. They will be looking at the time it takes the cameras and sound detection to notify base police if an incident were to occur.

USAFA said this test will help protect staff, families and visitors.

The Prep School is a dormitory and will be completely evacuated during this testing.

The base will remain open and traffic will not be impacted.
