COLORADO SPRINGS — The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs confirmed Thursday that one of their students died in a rock climbing accident this month.
In her obituary written by her family, 18-year-old Elizabeth Young was rock climbing with friends on June 10 when her rope broke and she fell 80 feet.
She and her family moved to Castle Rock in 2013, and she went to school at UCCS to stay close to home.
Her family wrote Young became "very dedicated to rock climbing with her friends" during the last several months of school. The university said Young finished her first year and was studying mechanical engineering.
Her funeral is scheduled for this Saturday in Castle Rock, which would have been her 19th birthday. She is survived by her parents and two siblings.
