PUEBLO COUNTY — A stolen truck that was used in an attempt to steal an ATM from a Pueblo bank was later involved in a 20-minute pursuit through Pueblo.
At approximately 7:47 a.m. on Tuesday, a dark-colored Ford F350 attempted to steal an ATM from the Sunflower bank on Pueblo's southside.
The suspect fired a rifle at a witness during the incident. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the truck which then led officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit was terminated due to excessive speeds in a residential area and failure to obey traffic signals.
Officers located the truck driving in the area of W. Pueblo Blvd and Lake Ave at approximately 3:30 p.m. when the vehicle stopped in a business's parking lot.
As officers were establishing a perimeter, the vehicle's occupants were able to escape. Civilians notified officers that the suspects carjacked a 70-year-old woman in a parking lot across the street.
The suspects then led officers on a 20-minute pursuit through Pueblo.
Officers attempted to end the pursuit with stop sticks but they were not effective.
Occupants in the vehicle pointed at least one firearm out the window and began firing at officers while driving.
One officer returned fire in an attempt to stop the suspect.
The suspect continued south of Pueblo to Mile Marker 86 where a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was used to disable the vehicle.
All three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody on the scene.
Two occupants of the vehicle were injured and were transported to the hospital. The third occupant wasn't injured.
Officers involved in the incident were not injured but were placed on administrative leave per standard protocol.
