EL PASO COUNTY — Another suspect in the October 2018 killing of a teen in Security-Widefield is heading to prison for a long time.
On Monday, Judge Lin Billings-Vela sentenced Tyler Lee Wheeler for his role in the shooting death of Kenyatta Horne. Addressing the victim's family in the courtroom, the judge said "no sentence that I can impose will bring back your beloved son and nephew" before handing down a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Wheeler is one of four defendants arrested after the killing in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood. According to court documents, the group planned on robbing drug dealers of their product and cash. As the four suspects approached Horne, there was a gunfight in which Horne fired several times before he was hit in the chest with shotgun blasts. He died on the sidewalk.
In November, Judge Linda Billings-Vela sentenced Beslim Torres-Vall to the maximum of 48 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder.
Wayne TC Sellers was found guilty of first degree murder, aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole, plus 32 years.
Another suspect, Kyle Watts is awaiting trial.
