Swimmers dealing with crowds at local pools

COLORADO SPRINGS — People are flocking to swimming pools to beat this summer's heat.

Workers at the YMCA run pools say they've reached capacity more often this year than in years past. They say there is a shortage of pools for the large growth the city has seen.

A big reason for the pool reaching capacity, the closing of Prospect Lake for repairs.

"With Prospect not being open this summer I think it's kind of increasing everyone's numbers," said Seth Bricker, aquatics director. "We definitely see that Monument is hitting capacity more often."

Peak hours are usually between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. They say it's a good idea to call ahead if you want to see how crowded the pool is.
