DENVER (AP) — Colorado authorities have arrested a man suspected of shooting a sheriff’s deputy in both legs with a shotgun during a botched home invasion in 2010.

Thirty-year-old Gerardo Reyes-Torres was arrested in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. He’s accused of shooting Deputy Luis Hernandez when the deputy and other officers responded to the home invasion, robbery and shooting in January, 2010.

Hernandez eventually recovered from his injuries.

Investigators finally tracked down the suspect after learning that Reyes-Torres was seeking a construction job on a government building in Jefferson County.

He was taken into custody during a traffic stop Thursday night and faces charges of attempted first degree murder of a police officer, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated robbery and assault.

He was being held on a $5,000,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Monday. It was unknown if he had an attorney.
