SuperTanker to help fight fires in Bolivia

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Global SuperTanker, based in Colorado Springs, has been ordered to help fight fires in Bolivia.

This comes as wildfires continue to rage in the Amazon region of South America.

The 747 SuperTanker can carry nearly 20,000 gallons of water or retardant, and is expected to start making drops Friday morning.

The Bolivian government will pay $800,000 to lease it.

So far this year more than 74,000 fires have started in the Amazon Rain Forest, causting major agriculture and health problems.
