EL PASO COUNTY — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office had an update on two programs working to help inmates improve their lives after jail.
The programs are the "Gateway through the Rockies" and "Reintegration and Recovery."
Businesses provide work opportunities and training.
The jail is full and so are the programs.
The Sheriff's Office says they would like more community members to help out.
Historically, about 75% of inmates wind up back in jail within the first 18 months of release.
For those who went through these programs, that number dropped just over 50%.
