COLORADO SPRINGS — Recent storms have really made some trails in our area treacherous.
Colorado Springs Trails and Open Space is warning everyone to stay on the designated trails for your safety. They also say wearing cleats can help you from falling.
Trying to avoid the slick spots by going around ice patches is actually harming the trails.
"That's what we call braiding the trail, and if there's not enough snow pack along the trail, then you're actually damaging the trail and widening the trail, and that's just not healthy for it," said Susan Davies with Trails and Open Space.
Officials also recommend hiking tier one trails that are clear of snow and ice, as well as choosing some of our parks with more open space.
