FORT CARSON — Christmas came early for 22 families on Fort Carson Thursday thanks to a special campaign.
"Pay Away the Layaway" wants to make sure every child smiles on Christmas morning.
This year the organization paid all 22 families' layaway bills at the Army and Air Force Exchange on post, a total of $4,700.
Soldiers and their families were there for the surprise, and one Sergeant says he and his wife plan to pay the big gesture forward.
"You know you always get told thank you for your service and stuff but it kind of gets repetitive after awhile, and stuff like this just goes to show there are really people out there that really do care," said Sgt. Jeremy Atkins.
You can still help the group pay away more layaways by donating at their website.
