In the past 10 years, 49 people have died at Rocky Mountain National Park, making the park the eighth most dangerous park in the country.
Outforia, an outdoor resource guide, submitted a Freedom of Information Act to the National Park Service to find out how many people died, and of what, at national parks around the United States between 2010 and 2020.
Of the 49 deaths in the park, 18 were from a fall, according to Outforia's data. Five people died of environmental reasons, one person was poisoned, six had a medical or natural death, and one was listed as a homicide. Eleven people's deaths were listed as "other" and seven were "undetermined."
RMNP sees more than 4.5 million visitors annually. In 2019, 4,670,054 people visited the park.

The national parks with the most fatal incidents were the Grand Canyon with 134 deaths, Yosemite with 126 deaths and the Great Smoky Mountains with 92 deaths.
The No. 1 cause of death in national parks was falls, which claimed the lives of 245 people. Medical and natural deaths came in as No. 2 with 192 deaths.
