COLORADO SPRINGS — The popularity of CBD pet products isn't going anywhere anytime soon but before you get your paws on the latest pet health supplement, words of advice from a local veterinarian---research it!
CBD, or cannabidiol, is an herbal treatment made from extracts from cannabis plants. People use CBD for themselves and their pets to treat arthritis, inflammation, pain, anxiety and to calm the animal down.
Dr. Stan Brase, a local veterinarian at the Rockrimmon Animal Clinic, said only five veterinarian offices carry CBD products for pets in our area.
Brase said there are no side effects that pet owners have to worry about, but different pets can have different reactions to certain supplements.
Another tip from Brase is if you decide to try CBD pet products, make sure they are organic.
There are a number of benefits to using CBD products on your pets, but when it comes to your furry friends, a professional diagnosis is key.
"They really need to get the diagnosis of what is wrong with the animal, that would be the reason to bring the dog or cat in to have it looked at," Brase said.
