EAGLE COUNTY — Crews were on a search and recovery mission Sunday in Eagle County.
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office reported that on Saturday around 4:45 p.m., they received a report of an avalanche in the area of Muddy Pass, north of Vail.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a group of three people on snowmobiles may have triggered an avalanche in the back country. One of the people was able to free himself and contacted authorities.
Around noon on Sunday, the Sheriff's Office reported that a search and recovery mission was underway for the other two people.
Multiple agencies were working collaboratively on the search efforts.
Around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the Sheriff's Office reported that search crews had found the bodies of the two people who were missing.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the back country avalanche forecast in Eagle County is currently rated as considerable.
