PUEBLO — The American Red Cross needs volunteers in Pueblo and southeastern Colorado.

The group said it wants 10 volunteers whose responsibilities will be mostly local. They will be helping people who have lost their homes and with other events and emergencies.

"If we had to open up a shelter, we don't want to call somebody from Denver or Grand Junction or whatever to come and open that shelter. We need it open right away so our local volunteers are that first call and we get it setup," said Regional Communications Specialist, Bill Fortune.

An open house will be held at the Pueblo Red Cross location on Santa Fe this Thursday at 5 p.m. You can also apply online.
