COLORADO SPRINGS — The Red Cross held its annual Hometown Heroes Awards Thursday at the Antlers Hotel.

It's the organization's biggest fundraiser, and serves as a chance to recognize those in our community who go above and beyond to help others.

A common thread among everyone who attended is their support for the Red Cross.

"The American Red Cross is everywhere. We're helping, everyday, somebody is impacted by an event that needs Red Cross support, whether it's locally or nationally," said Bill Fortune.

A portion of the money raised at Thursday's event will support the Home Fire Campaign, which provides free smoke detectors for communities.
