PUEBLO — Born on June 15, 1916, Carrie Mikkelson says the key to living to 104 years old is to not smoke or drink and eat plain bread and butter.

The Pueblo native's birthday Monday was a little extra special (if living to 104 wasn't special already) as Dennis Florez, the president of the Pueblo City Council, announced that the City of Pueblo has named June 15 "Carrie Mikkelson Day."

"I don't like this hoopla for me, no way," Mikkelson said. "But it is what it is. It is nice. It will probably be my last one because after all, you can't live forever."

Born in a South Dakota farming community, Mikkelson wants to say many thanks to everyone who helped her celebrate her birthday.
