PUEBLO — The Pueblo Police Department giving back to schools today in District 60.

The department handed out school supplies to 19 schools in the area.

Last week, Community Resources United partnered with the Pueblo Education Coalition to hand out school supplies with 'defund the police' material in them. The Pueblo Police Department said they did not hand out the supplies today in response, they just want to help students and their families in the community.

"We just wanted to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do and that's the reason," said Sergeant Franklyn Ortega. "These are just bags with school supplies there is nothing else in there its just something to help the teachers educate the children."

Around 500 students will benefit from the school supplies the police handed out today.
