Pueblo firefighter helping to battle Australia fires

AUSTRALIA — As the battle against brush fires continues across Australia we're hearing from a firefighter from Pueblo helping to lead the charge.

Bill King directs the fire program for the U.S. Forest Service in Pueblo.

He's been in Australia for about a week and says what he's seeing is extreme.

"The wind was about 50 miles an hour and there were ash fallout. So we knew that we're going to be in for a firefight," King said.

King is working to coordinate resources while in Australia, including machinery, clothing and food.

He says he was up for the long journey, including leaving behind an infant daughter, because he has met Australian firefighters in the past who have come to the U.S. to help when we needed it.
