PUEBLO — The Pueblo Fire Dept. is gearing up for a busy fire season.

The department has responded to numerous fires in river bottom areas over the past month. Several have been related to people camping down near the water.

During their shifts, firefighters are checking on potential hot spots to make sure everything is safe.

"Our crews are vigilant in their territories to check the high-risk areas like the wild land urban interface areas if things get to a more severe level later on we will definitely have the crews taking even more frequent checks in those areas," Capt. Woody Percival said.
