PUEBLO WEST — The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is now investigating a suspicious death in Pueblo West as a homicide.

The office reported the investigation Friday evening.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to an apartment on South McCulloch Blvd. in Pueblo West on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, 12/31/19. The 911 caller had reported a neighbor lying on the floor of an adjacent apartment. The Pueblo West Fire Dept. responded and told deputies the man showed obvious signs of death. Investigative units then responded, along with the Pueblo County Coroner's Office.

Deputies and detectives believed the man's injuries looked suspicious, the Sheriff's Office said. Once an autopsy was complete, the evidence confirmed the death as a homicide.

The Coroner's Office has confirmed the identity of the deceased man as 64-year-old John Karl Bolte, according to the Sheriff's Office.

A release from the Sheriff's Office said Sheriff Krik M. Taylor is encouraging the public to get involved in this case.

“Mr. Bolte lived alone in this apartment, but we are sure that he has friends and family that can help lead us to the individual(s) that did this,” Taylor said. “We ask that anyone with information regarding Mr. Bolte’s death or anyone that saw something suspicious in the area on the 30th of December or New Year’s Eve day, call us.”

Information on this incident can be reported to the Sheriff's Office at (719) 583-6250 or through Pueblo Crimestoppers at (719) 542-STOP.
