PUEBLO — The battle between the chiles has been heating up for a few months now, but Governor Jared Polis said he's always known who the true chile champion is during a green chile taste test at Musso Farms in Pueblo.

Governor Jared Polis first did some shopping at Musso Farms, then took a tour, and then even roasted some chiles. He also sampled a freshly roasted Pueblo chile, and those from Musso Farms said those chiles are now getting the attention they deserve. "Need for it, especially based on this year with everyone having the awareness that 'hey there's not just Hatch,' but there's this other chile that's just a little bit better," said Rocky Musso, a fifth generation farmer.

There was no Hatch chile from New Mexico in the taste test, because Polis said our neighbors to the south never show up for the challenge. However, Polis said at the end of the day, it's important to recognize the hard work of the agriculture industry. "We're ready any time anywhere, to go up against Hatch. And we know that the real winners are the taste buds of Colorado families, and the men and women who grow chile in our great state and in New Mexico," said Governor Polis.
