COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Police led a funeral procession from Peterson Air Force Base to The Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs to honor Sgt. Major James "Ryan" Sartor.

The funeral for Sgt. Major Sartor is closed to the public, yet people were invited to pay their respects for his life of service and sacrifice while serving in Afghanistan.

The 40-year-old served with the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Carson.

Sartor lived in Falcon with his wife and children. He served as a company sergeant within his unit. The native of Teague, Texas served deployments in Iraq and twice in Afghanistan. He enlisted in 2001 and received more than 20 awards and decorations during his career. Sartor will posthumously receive a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, according to U.S. Army Special Operations spokesman Lt. Col. Loren Bymer.
