EL PASO COUNTY — One person died Sunday after a rollover crash near Peyton.
The crash happened around noon on Elbert Road, just north of Evans Road in El Paso County.
Colorado State Patrol said the lone vehicle involved in the accident skidded after the driver overcorrected for an unknown reason and rolled after hitting a fence. The driver was ejected and died at the scene despite life saving efforts. That person has been identified as 77-year-old Earl Whittemore from New Mexico.
The passenger in the vehicle has been identified as 57-year-old Cara Brenza, also from New Mexico. She sustained serious injuries and was flown to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Neither person was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash, accordign to State Patrol.
Neither alcohol or drugs is being considered a factor in the crash.
