COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Fire Investigators say that an off-duty firefighter may have stopped the spread of a house fire on Monday.

The house fire took place on Mount Werner Circle on Monday morning.

According to investigators, the fire started in the garage or attic, and was quickly expanding into the house when the off-duty firefighter saw the smoke and got everyone out.

They then closed all the doors to cut off air flow to the fire.

''Good thing for us to try and keep that fire contained, especially where it was," said Capt. Mike Smaldino for the Colorado Springs Fire Department. "It wasn't able to get into the rest of the home.''

No one was injured as an investigation into the fire begins.

The Red Cross is working to help seven people displaced by the fire.
