PUEBLO — A new suspension bridge is being built over the Arkansas River in Pueblo.

The work is being done to expand the Arkansas River Trail. Once it is complete, the bridge will connect the Kayak Park to the levee.

"Very excited about it. It has been a long process with the levee reconstruction and the planning to make it open to the public and make it safe to the public and having this piece go in right now is a huge excitement for us," Michael Cuppy with Northstar Engineering and Surveying said.

The bridge is expected to be open to the public on June 3.

A second suspension bridge is also expected to be built near Main Street, creating a trail loop around the river near downtown.
