BACA COUNTY — Several fires are burning in Baca County, 19 miles west of Campo. According to the U.S. Forest Service the "Grasslands Complex" fire, is made up of several small fires burning near eachother. In all more than 4.000 acres have burned in rural grasslands, there is 0% containment. No structures are threatened, the fire is in a fairly remote area in extreme southeastern Colorado.
Fire crews are being helped by air support including one large tanker and several smaller aircraft. Additional crews are also being called in. Crews are facing gusting winds and temperatures near 100 degrees in the area. There was lightning in the area Wednesday evening, which is being investigated as the likely cause.
