MANITOU SPRINGS, Colorado — Members of the Kiwanis Club of Manitou Springs spent the day helping parents in need. They held a drive-up donation event Saturday to collect items for Westside Cares and Homeward Pikes Peak. The donated items included diapers, baby wipes, formula, and kid-friendly snacks.
Club president Craig Carnick said the pandemic has hurt many families financially and they wanted to help where it would do the most good.
"There's coat donation drives, donation drives for food but perhaps we've forgotten the young kids, the children," Carnick said. "That's what Kiwanis is all about, supporting young children."
While the event was aimed at helping those in need, Carnick said that getting together with club members was its own reward.
"It's important in these times not to let personal connections falter."
The club is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The donation event took place at the Manitou Congregational Church.
