Major change coming to Highway 50 in Pueblo West

Aimed at reducing crashes

PUEBLO WEST — An overpass will be built on Highway 50 at Purcell Blvd. in Pueblo West to allow traffic to continue moving on the highway.

The traffic light at Purcell will be taken out, and new ramps will be built to access Purcell and Highway 50.

The changes are all to make the area safer.

"This will help reduce crashes. There are a lot of rear end crashes from traffic because of the signal so putting in a grade separated interchange will reduce the crashes along Highway 50," said resident engineer Dan Dahlke.

The project is expected to cost $40 million. Construction is planned to start this spring and should be finished by the summer of 2022.
