COLORADO SPRINGS — A local man has taken it upon himself to clean up Colorado Springs.

Jacob Drivas cleaned up the area near I-25 and Circle, leaving trash bags and other junk items near the northbound off-ramp.

He said in a Facebook post he called the city for pick-up but got no response.

News5 reached out to city Code Enforcement who say he called the police not them, so they never go the message. But they say there is a proper way to help.

"If you don't know what you're getting into, we would advise you to go in pairs or in groups, let us know what you're doing, so maybe we might advise against it, at times, or we would give you some advice and maybe provide you with some safety equipment," said Code Enforcement Supervisor Garrett Schumacher.

City crews say they did collect the trash once they found out about the clean up.
