The drive also received several walk-up donations Thursday, and KOAA and the Scripps Howard Foundation also donated $12,000 to the cause.

Throughout the day, KOAA News5 will be broadcasting live to drive donations. These funds will be used to purchase food for struggling families in southern Colorado.
The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact can be felt far and wide with millions of low-income workers losing their jobs. In March and April, the demand for food donations doubled.
Care and Share Food Bank’s normal weekly delivery of food went from 250 million pounds to more than 500 million pounds. And there are no signs of the demand decreasing any time soon. But, donations made directly to Care and Share have tremendous buying power, and a little money can buy a lot of food.
