COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department said "at least a dozen" unlocked cars in three areas had different items stolen, including a garage door opener that a suspect used to get inside a home.

Officers said the incident happened around 2 a.m. Thursday.

The cars impacted were located in three different areas: the 5200 block of Ferrari Drive, the 7100 block of Ashley Drive and the 6000 block of Instone Circle.

It was not specified what area the garage door opener was used.

CSPD is reminding everyone to lock their vehicles and that car owners should not leave garage openers in their cars.
