EL PASO COUNTY — Students in School District 49 will soon have more learning options available.

Officials broke ground on a new facility Thursday to expand Pikes Peak Early College.

The new space will allow students to combine traditional classes with innovative online education, tailoring a path for each individual.

"Not every student fits in a traditional brick and mortar model," said Executive Principal Dave Knoche. "Some students need more flexibility. Some students need more opportunity for career and technical. Some students need more opportunity to attend college."

Some 700 students in the district will have access to the facility and the programs it will provide.
