FORT CARSON — In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Fort Carson held an event Wednesday to honor Hispanic Americans.

The theme was Hispanic Americans, Essential to the Blueprint of Our Nation.

News 5 spoke with one first generation Hispanic American who said it's important for Hispanic Americans to share their background story.

"It's definitely a hard road traveled for many, including myself. As you can see with hard work and perseverance, you are able to make your dreams come true and be here in this great country," said Lt. Jacob Salazar.

Hispanic Heritage Month began last month and ends on October 15th.
