AURORA, Colo. (AP) — A former Colorado police officer who stole thousands of dollars from local charities was sentenced to 18 months of work release.
Roland Albert, 39, was sentenced Monday to the work release at the Arapahoe County jail and five years of probation, The Sentinel reported.
Albert pleaded guilty in October to embezzling cash from the Aurora Police Orphan Fund and The Brotherhood For The Fallen Aurora.
Albert stole more than $65,000 in 2017 and 2018 from the charities that support the families of police officers killed or injured on the job, authorities said.
More than 700 Aurora police personnel contribute a portion of their paychecks to both charities, officials said.
Albert served as treasurer for both groups and took money from their coffers 47 times beginning in May 2017, Senior Deputy District Attorney Steve Fauvner said.
A district court judge suspended a four-year term in state prison pending Roland’s compliance with the terms of his sentence.
