SOUTHERN COLORADO — Storms like the ones that have hit southern Colorado in the latter part of October make it easy to forget about fire danger.
However, firefighters are sending out the message that although we might be coming out fire season, we're still in a fire year and even a short dry-spell can evaporate moisture out of grasses and other fuels.
"People still need to keep fire mitigation on the forefront of their minds, keeping their grasses mowed to four inches in depth, keeping leaves and needles raked around their property," said CSFD Program Coordinator, Ashley Whitworth.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department will come out and give free on-site consultations to homeowners and let them know what they can do to keep their property safe.
