PUEBLO — An emergency shelter is planned to be open sometime next week in Pueblo.
The city government wasn't planning on the weather being snowy and cold so soon, but now it plans to spend between $25,000 and $40,000 to open up the emergency warming shelter from last year on 8th St. and Blake St. for at least two months.
"The homeless community is part of our community. They are just as important as any other citizen and they are more vulnerable than most citizens, so it is our job as a city government that we take care of these people," said City Council President, Dennis Flores.
City Council plans to have an emergency vote on Monday.
Construction is expected to be done on the permanent shelter on Fourth St. by the end of the year.
