COLORADO SPRINGS — It's a golden anniversary this year for the El Paso County Parks and to celebrate, the Parks Department is kicking off the "50k for 50 years" hiking series.
Participants can hike 50 kilometers of trails at seven different parks throughout the county. Some of the parks included on the list are:
- Paint Mines Interpretive Park
- Black Forest Regional Park
- The Pineries Open Space
- Kane Ranch Open Space.
A series of guided hikes at each park will happen throughout the year with the first one at the paint mines on Feb. 6.
"We're just wanting to get people out to these parks. Some of the parks, again, that are less visited than the other ones and to show their support for county parks. Especially now, with everything going on in the world today, so many people are realizing the importance of parks and this is just trying to bring it all home," said Theresa Odello, recreation coordinator at El Paso County Parks.
