COLORADO SPRINGS — A driver has died after a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Police were called to the area of Corinth Drive and Templeton Gap Road before 4:30 a.m. after the crash was reported.

When they arrived officers found the driver, later identified as James Cleghorn, 35, of Colorado Springs. Cleghorn received medical attention at the scene but could not be saved.

CSPD says it appears Cleghorn was driving his Chevy Malibu eastbound on Templeton Gap when he hit the curb near the intersection with Corinth Drive. The car crossed the westbound lanes and hit a tree.

It's unknown so far if excessive speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash. Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is asked to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000.

This is the first traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year there had also been one traffic-related death in the city.
