CAÑON CITY — Cañon City police officers arrested a domestic violence suspect as he was trying to flee the area and then crashed into a tree.

At about 7:44 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Family Center Dr. on a report of a domestic violence situation.

When they arrived on the scene, the suspect, 32-year-old Thomas Eason, fled the area in a Dodge Durango. As he was attempting to leave, Eason intentionally struck a Cañon City police vehicle. Eason continued to flee, leading officers in a pursuit that ended on N. 9th St. and Oak Ave. where he crashed into a tree.

After crashing, there was a brief struggle before Eason was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for possible injuries. No officers were injured.

Eason had two outstanding warrants at the time of this incident. Both were failure to comply with court orders. Charges relating to the domestic violence case are pending an investigation.

Colorado State Troopers are assisting with the investigation.
