PUEBLO — The Pueblo Police Department is seeing a dip in people applying to be officers.

The Department says it has received about 100 applications so far this year, but it has averaged about 350 applications the last two years.

Police say contributing factors to the dip include the way the police are viewed in the U.S. recently along with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There is always going to be someone saying something negative about police but regardless of what they say the police in this department and departments throughout the united states help people, they make a difference they help people that don't even know they are being helped," said Sergeant Franklyn Ortega.

The deadline for applications is September 13.
