COLORADO SPRINGS — The deadline is approaching to submit applications for Service Academy nominations.

Members of Congress have the privilege of nominating candidates for appointment to the U.S. Service Academies: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; The U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.

Candidates for a Service Academy nomination must be U.S. Citizens at the time of enrollment, not married, pregnant, or have a legal obligation to support a child or children, and be at least 17 but not yet 23 on July 1 of the year admitted.

In a statement U.S. Representative Doug Lamborn called it an honor to nominate candidates from Colorado's 5th Congressional District to attend the academies. "Our selection process is rigorous and lends itself to finding the best men and women to serve our great nation. I urge the parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors in our district to encourage potential candidates to consider the possibilities and opportunities that come with a career of service and patriotism," Lamborn said.

The deadline to submit applications for the class of 2024 to Rep. Lamborn's office is Sept. 27. Completed applications can be mailed or delivered in-person to Lamborn's office: 1125 Kelly Johnson Blvd., Suite 330, Colorado Springs, CO 80920.

Those living in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District can submit applications to Rep. Scott Tipton.

His office asks that applications be submitted by Oct. 7. They can be mailed or hand-delivered to his Pueblo office located at 503 N. Main Street, Suite 658, Pueblo, CO 81003.
