COLORADO SPRINGS — A District 11 student is in serious conditions after being hit by a car at a school bus stop early Monday morning.

School officials say the 13-year-old Holmes Middle School student was walking their brother to the bus on North Chestnut Street crossing behind the bus.

According to Colorado Springs Police, the driver did not stop, even though the stop sign on the bus was extended.

The child was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

"We've got a lot more traffic on the road," said Devra Ashby with District 11. "We would just ask that drivers pay attention because those students, obviously they're somebody's babies."

Ashby also said they see five to 10 cross arm violations per month in District 11.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing but charges are anticipated for the driver.
