EL PASO COUNTY — This coming week, Congressman Doug Lamborn will be touring the El Paso County Jail, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said in a release Sunday.

The Sheriff's Office said the congressman has a great interest in the jail, as it is housed in his hometown.

The jail, which is located on East Las Vegas Street in Colorado Springs, is the largest jail in Colorado outside of the Department of Corrections. It also houses a larger than average population of veterans. This is due to the multiple military installations in the area, the Sheriff's Office said.

Congressman Lamborn will tour the whole facility but a special emphasis will be put on the Veteran's Ward and Veteran's programming, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office said in it's release that, along with Congressman Lamborn, it has a interest in potential federal legislation affecting Medicaid enrollment for pre-trial detainees. Lamborn and Sheriff Elder will also discuss potential opportunities for legislation surrounding law enforcement personnel mental health support in response to a growing trend of suicides.

Congressman Lamborn will be touring the jail at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
