COLORADO SPRINGS — The City of Colorado Springs is two years away from celebrating its sesquicentennial, or 150th birthday.
Wednesday, city staffers and a crowd of supporters in costumes gathered at the site where the first take was driven on this day in 1871 and Mayor Suthers read a speech form that day.
During the next two years, there will be events and efforts to celebrate the city's history, culminating with a huge event downtown.
Mayor Suthers also announced a city-wide challenge for citizens, and that is for men to grown facial hair and women to wear bonnets.
