COLORADO SPRINGS — In Colorado Springs, the annual 9/11 ceremony was held at Memorial Park.

Local leaders, first responders, and members of the military joined with the community to honor those who lost their lives.

To welcome guest speaker, retired General Richard Myers, there was a special performance of "In the Stairwel" by the Air Academy Vocal Group.

Myers was the newly appointed head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when the attack happened.

We weren't ready for it, and it's like Pearl Harbor. You can't forget these things. You've got to remind people that really bad things can happen if you're not on top of your game," Myers said.

Myers was also commander of NORAD and Air Force Space Command. He has served on capitol hill and the Pentagon. He is currently president of Kansas State University.
