COLORADO SPRINGS — A man wanted by authorities was arrested after a K9 got into a hotel room and found him hiding under a bed off Rusina Road, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The department responded to the Days Inn hotel before 3 a.m. Friday when they received a tip that 39-year-old Joseph Derreck Wotruba was staying there.

CSPD said rooms near his were evacuated when the hotel staff confirmed he was staying there. They also said the room was registered under his name.

A News5 crew on scene saw multiple police vehicles were outside of the hotel during this time.

Police called the room to try and contact him, but he did not answer. Then, police said they made announcements over the speaker in the hotel ordering him to exit the room.

When they did, three people left the room Wotruba was in and told officers he was hiding under the bed.

CSPD contacted its Technical Enforcement Unit to bring a K9. Police said they had a search warrant written and signed.

Officers said TEU "eventually" got into the room and the K9 found Wotruba.

CSPD said he was taken to the hospital for evaluation and booked on warrants.

It is unclear what the charges are at this time.
