COLORADO SPRINGS — A full city block has been blocked off on Tejon St. to allow for outdoor dining.
The closure began at 4 p.m. Saturday for a "soft" launch of "Dine out Downtown." Traffic is being diverted at Colorado Ave. and Pikes Peak Ave.
The summer program will close the block every Friday night at 4 p.m. and it will remain closed through Saturday night for the rest of the summer.
The Downtown Partnership said they have been working hard to find a balance of fun and safety.
"Of course we need things that are safe when it comes to shutting down the street, but everyone said we want to help our restaurants. And they found a way to have a safe experience, but also have a great experience dining out," President and CEO of the Downtown Partnership, Susan Edmondson said.
The program may extend to additional blocks depending on community feedback.
