COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off will take place this year with hot air balloons launching from various locations in the city, according to event organizers.

The announcement came from the event's Facebookpage stating the 43-year-old Labor Day tradition will be in a "heavily modified form" due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the actual lift off will not take place at Memorial Park this year, the plan is to have hot air balloons launch from numerous locations in the city for all to see. Hot Apple Productions, LLC and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation are organizing this celebration.

Event organizers shared the general areas balloons will take off from during this year's Labor Day Lift Off.

"Our goal is to create a unique community event that allows residents to continue to enjoy the tradition of the Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off," said Sports Corp President and CEO Tom Osborne.

Since the Labor Day Lift Off is not at Memorial Park this year, there will be no donut-eating contest, lake events or field activities. Thousands typically attend this free event, which is why it is moving to a citywide launch in an effort to avoid large gatherings.

The Labor Day Lift Off is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6 with a "pop up Balloon Glow," weather permitting. On Saturday and Sunday, the balloons will launch from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with the balloon glow only on Saturday at 7 p.m.
