COLORADO SPRINGS — The annual "Fill the Boot" campaign was forced to go virtual this year due to COVID-19, and the change has kept firefighters from going out in the city and raising funds in person.
The fundraiser by firefighters helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund research into neuromuscular disease and to help send children battling these diseases to a special summer camp in Empire, CO.
Firefighters normally go to local shopping centers and street corners to seek donations, but they really need your help this year.
"We've raised just under $300 and generally we set a goal between $60 and $70 thousand," said Third Trustee of the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Ryan Morris. "So we're still going to try to shoot for that goal for this year. Shooting for $60 thousand and hope that we can get it."
The Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters plan on a social media blitz this weekend to get the word out and bump up that final tally.
