Colorado Springs animal rescue celebrates milestone

COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs Animal Rescue is flying high after accomplishing a major milestone.

Pikes Peak Parrot Rescue is celebrating its 100th adoption since opening less than one year ago.

The rescue said many people don't realize the amount of work involved in owning bird until after they get one.

"We're not a typical bird store. We are a shelter. We bring them in, we take care of them, we love them when they weren't loved before. And we provide for them until their next season comes along," Director, Christine Bauer said.

It can take a while for a bird to find a home, as the rescue makes sure adopters spend time bonding with their new pet.

The rescue also sells feed and other items bird owners need.
